Louise M. Douville
Louise M. Douville was born in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. She was admitted to the State Bar of California 1987; the U.S. District Court, Central District of California (1989); the U.S. Court of Appeals, 9th Circuit (1989) ; and the United States Supreme Court (1995).
Ms. Douville attended University of California, Riverside (B.A. English 1980), and participated in a Post Baccalaureate curriculum in business at California State University Fullerton (1980-1982), after which she graduated from Western State University College of Law- Fullerton (1983-1987-Moot Court Honors).
Ms. Douville began her career as an associate attorney with Garrett, Fisher, Jensen and Sanders where she practiced general liability defense for one year (1988-1989), and left that firm to focus on defending healthcare entities when she became an associate attorney with Madory, Booth, Zell and Pleiss (1989-1995). In 1995, Ms. Douville came to work at Beam, Brobeck and West in 1995, where she became a junior partner in 2003, and has been a name partner since January 2013.
Ms. Douville has been a member of the State Bar of California since 1987, and has been a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) since 2011. She is also a member of the Association of Southern California Defense Counsel (ASCDC), Southern California Association of Hospital Risk Managers (SCAHRM), as well as the American Society of Hospital Risk Managers (ASHRM).
Ms. Douville has focused her practice in the area of medical malpractice defense, healthcare law, elder law and elder abuse, and also handles matters of government tort liability, insurance indemnity, and insurance coverage. She has also handled litigation involving premises liability, automobile accidents, and employment law, and has participated in complex litigation defense of sensitive personal injury cases which have drawn international media attention and have included interaction with multiple governmental agencies (FBI, IRS, and FDA). She has tried more than twenty Superior Court cases to verdict with excellent results including defense verdicts, and has handled more than two hundred and fifty binding and non-binding arbitrations and mediations.
Ms. Douville has also served as an invited speaker/lecturer at numerous hospitals and professional organizations on a variety of topics including Elder Abuse, Medical Records and Documentation, and the Medicare Secondary Payor Act.
Outside the office, Ms. Douville and her husband are avid fans of the Anaheim Ducks and enjoy traveling and spending time with family and friends.
